Application Note 103:
Detecting Raised Stoppers in Sterile Freeze Dried Vials

This Application Note describes how laser-based headspace inspection
detects vials having raised stopper issues. Experiments are described which demonstrate that the closure failure rate in a set of vials having raised stoppers is a probabilistic function of the stopper height. Inspection data from a commercial lyo batch suffering from raised stopper issues is also presented showing that quantifying the physical headspace conditions also enables science-based process troubleshooting and optimization.
